How to Eat a Mango / Cómo se come un mango is finally here!! I cannot believe this long journey is now a reality. There is so much people I have to be thankful for, people that gave me their time to make this the beautiful book it is. Thank you to my fantastic agent Jen Rofé and Neal Porter Books, and specially to Juliana Perdomo, whose illustrations give live to these humble words. I hope you enjoy it!

The first time I saw Juliana Perdomo’s illustrations, I was moved by the warmth and homely feeling of the colors she used to give life to Carmencita, Abuelita, and their world. It was like being home and bringing my memories to the page in the sweetest possible way.

And not just the cover but every illustration is an invitation to soak in sunlight, nature, culture, and family. This book is truly inspired by the Venezuela that lives in my heart, and Juliana captured every aspect of it. My words are a meditative journey through the senses, and Juliana’s illustrations are the perfect complement. How to Eat a Mango (Cómo se come un mango) combines our feelings, and I hope the readers can relate and create their own.

I am thrilled to announce I have been welcomed as a Musa with Las Musas Books! They are a collective of Latinx women and otherwise marginalized people whose gender identity aligns with femininity. Las Musas, through writing and/or illustrating, have come together to support and amplify each other’s voices in children’s literature.

This is such a milestone for me. After being a Musa Hermana Mentee in 2020, I dreamt of being part of this talented group of authors and/or illustrators whose work has inspired and nurtured my own in the best possible ways.

I hope to give in return a bit of that support. Thanks for the welcome, amigas!
